Biography
In just a few short years, Majandra Delfino has taken Hollywood by storm, with a starring role in UPN's "Roswell" and three films that have been released in the past two years. Steven Soderbergh's "Traffic," starring Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones; the teen horror spoof "I Know What You Screamed Last Summer" and the independent "The Learning Curve."
The daughter of Venezuelan and Cuban-American parents, Majandra was born in Caracas and moved to Miami as a toddler. By age 5 she was playing piano and at 11, she was singing as one-quarter of China Doll, an all girl quartet that specialized in Latin and American pop. After two years with the group, Majandra and best friend Samantha Gibb (daughter of BeeGee Maurice Gibb) hit the road as a writing and recording duet. They still perform together on special occasions, most recently as the opening act for the BeeGees in a benefit concert in Miami.
An excellent student, Majandra was drawn to the performing arts, acting in community theatre productions of "Grease" and "Peter Pan" and dancing in the Miami Ballet in "The Nutcracker." She was determined to become a professional actress, so her dismayed parents finally agreed to a six-month trial in Los Angeles as long as she promised to come home after what they believed would be inevitable disappointment.
Within 60 days she was enrolled in the New York School of the Arts, had secured an agent and landed her first film role opposite Kathleen Quinlin in "Zeus and Roxanne." A few months later, she had her first television series, starring as Tony Danza's eldest daughter in his NBC sitcom.
Majandra lives with her parents and sister (also an actress) in Los Angeles.

Trivia
Ever wonder what the name Majandra means? (Majandra is a composition of her first names Maria and Alejandra. Majandra's sister couldn't pronounce her name and came up with Majandra.) Majadra herself
has said in an interview that this info isn't correct, that her name is just Majandra and not a contraction as explained above. But I'll leave it just the same.
Maria, the meaning of this widely spread name is uncertain. The oldest form of this name 'Miriam' can be found in the 'Old Testament'.
In the Greek version of the 'New Testament' Maria was called 'Mariam'. Possibly the name originates from the Hebrew 'mârâh' which
means 'bitter, sorrowful'. In the Middle Ages a connection was made with the Latin 'mare' (sea). As in 'Stella
Maris' (star of the sea) one of the many names of Maria.
Alejandra is the Spanish variation of Alexandra. This is the female form of the name Alexander which means 'protector' and is a composition of the Greek 'eleksein' (protect) and 'andros' (man).
Since Majandra's character on Roswell has the same name as she no further explanation needed here.
