Synopsis
The Mississippi Bayou during the Civil War is the setting for this playful adaptation of Shakespeare's Tempest, featuring Peter Fonda as the mercurial sorcerer Gideon Prosper (aka Prospero).
A battle with his brother for control of his land leads Prosper to retreat to an island in the swamp with his daughter Miranda and Ariel, a slave. There, Prospero learns magic while his brother becomes a Southern spy.
Prospero creates a storm which triggers a series of events, including the washing ashore of a Union soldier who wins the heart of Miranda.
